Crystal City, the neighbourhood you can cross without going outside

Office towers, apartment blocks and shops here were linked from the 1960s by a network of underground corridors and an underground shopping concourse, so that much of the neighbourhood can be walked without stepping into the street. The layout of superblocks ringed by arterial roads was considered advanced when it was built. Defence contractors, aerospace firms and Pentagon overflow offices filled it, and PBS keeps its headquarters here.
