Cortez, a fishing village that stayed

Fishermen from North Carolina settled this point and their descendants still work it, one of the last commercial fishing villages left on a coast otherwise given over to condominiums. The 1995 state ban on gill nets nearly finished it. The village put much of its surrounding land into a preserve so it could not be built on, which is why it looks the way it does.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
