Columbus Park, Jens Jensen's best surviving work
1920
Chicago, Illinois
Jens Jensen laid out these 135 acres on the far west side at the Oak Park line, and it is generally counted the finest thing he built. He worked in a Midwestern idiom rather than a formal European one, shaping the ground into a long lagoon and stratified stonework meant to read as native prairie and river bluff. It was named a National Historic Landmark district in 2003.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
