Coltrane writes A Love Supreme in Dix Hills
Dix Hills, Huntington, New York
Muncharelli · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
He bought a ranch house on a quiet suburban street, built a practice room over the garage, and in an upstairs bedroom in the autumn of 1964 wrote the four-part suite that is the summit of his work, a prayer set as music, more or less literally. He had less than three years to live. The house sat derelict for decades and was saved from demolition by the neighbours.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
