Cobb County, Georgia

The Georgia General Assembly created Cobb County on 3 December 1832 out of the enormous Cherokee County, land northwest of the Chattahoochee that the state took from the Cherokee Nation after the federal Indian Removal Act. Georgia handed the parcels to white settlers by lottery. Marietta became the county seat. The county now holds more than 766,000 people, third most in the state.
