Clow International Airport, a grass strip named international as a joke
1992
Bolingbrook, Illinois
Oliver Clow cut a grass airstrip out of Bolingbrook farmland in the 1950s and named it Clow International on the spur of the moment while filing a flight plan. He said he picked the word for the German, Polish and other backgrounds of the pilots who flew there rather than for the size of the field, and admitted it bordered on the ridiculous but that people remembered it. The 1992 comedy Folks! Shot here with a cameo by Clow himself. The Illinois Aviation Museum keeps its restored and replica aircraft in a hangar on the field.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
