Champ d'Or, a 48,000 square foot copy of a French chateau in Hickory Creek
2002
Hickory Creek, Texas
Alan Goldfield, who founded the phone wholesaler CellStar, built this house in 2002 on the model of Vaux le Vicomte outside Paris, with a ballroom, a cinema and a tea room copied from Tavern on the Green. It reportedly cost 46 million dollars in a town of a few thousand people. It failed to sell at 72 million, went to auction in 2012, and has changed hands repeatedly since.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
