CBS films Sixteen in Webster Groves and the town revolts
1966
Webster Groves, Missouri
CBS News sent Arthur Barron to Webster Groves High School to film a cross section of sixteen year olds, and aired the result in February 1966 with Charles Kuralt narrating. The portrait of status anxious, college fixated teenagers enraged the town, which said it had been set up. One scene of students bolting from the building was read as escape. They were running out to see the CBS helicopter. Sociology courses have assigned the film ever since.
