Canarsie Pol, the Jamaica Bay island that dredging made bigger
1910

On maps around 1910 this uninhabited island south of Canarsie was a small patch of marsh. Crews deepening the channels of Jamaica Bay for navigation piled the dredge spoil onto it until it reached about 243 acres. It is federal parkland now, ten feet above the water at its highest point and reached mostly by kayakers setting out from Canarsie Pier.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
