Camp Randall, a Civil War camp turned stadium

Some 70,000 Wisconsin soldiers trained on the state fairgrounds, which also held about 1,000 Confederate prisoners. 140 of them died and are buried nearby. The stadium built on the site in 1917 keeps the name.
