Camp Prospect Hill trains volunteers on a Revolutionary fort
1861
Somerville, Massachusetts
The Union Army ran a training camp on Prospect Hill in 1861, on the same high ground the Continental Army had fortified in 1775. Company E of the 39th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry drilled there before heading south. The camp operated through that first year of the war.
