Bridgewater was the busy town before Beaver and Rochester

Bridgewater sits where the Beaver River runs into the Ohio, and in the decades before the Civil War it was the important one of the three towns at that junction, because it was the canal terminus where freight changed between waterways. Beaver and Rochester next door were quieter then, and Bridgewater's streets still hold more early buildings than either. The historic district runs from 1818 to 1933.
