Braddock's Field, where the Whiskey Rebellion nearly marched on Pittsburgh
1794
Braddock, Pennsylvania
On 1 August 1794 militia from four western Pennsylvania counties rallied on the old battlefield, five to seven thousand armed men angry at the federal excise on whiskey. Pittsburgh sent out a delegation and several barrels of whiskey rather than be attacked, and the crowd was allowed to march through the town peacefully. It was the largest armed resistance to the national government between the Revolution and the Civil War, and it brought a militia army of nearly 13,000 west that October.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
