Green Corn Rebellion
August 3, 1917
Seminole County, Oklahoma
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Poor white, Black and Muscogee tenant farmers organised by the Socialist Party planned to march on Washington against conscription, eating green corn on the way. A posse broke it up in a day. The state's substantial socialist movement never recovered.
