Boys High School, the Romanesque pile on Marcy Avenue
1891
832 Marcy Avenue, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York

James Naughton designed it for the Brooklyn school board in the 1890s, a brownstone and terracotta hulk with a corner tower and a campanile, and the roster it turned out is hard to believe for one public school. Aaron Copland, Isaac Asimov, Norman Mailer, Abraham Maslow, Max Roach and Chris Rock all sat in it. The school merged with Girls' High in 1975 and moved to Fulton Street, leaving the building landmarked and repurposed.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
