Blue Island grew up as a day's travel out of Chicago

Settlers moving on the Vincennes Trace stopped on this low wooded ridge in the 1830s because it sat about one day's journey out of Chicago, and the way station turned into a town. The ridge stands above flat prairie on every side, which is where the name came from. Blue Island shares its northern boundary with Chicago and has stayed a separate city through a century of annexations.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
