Virginia's governor sent two sloops into another colony's waters to deal with Edward Teach, who had taken a pardon and was living quietly at Bath. Lieutenant Maynard hid his men below and let Blackbeard board. Teach reportedly took five gunshots and twenty cuts before he went down. His head was hung from the bowsprit and the crew sailed home with it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
