Bergen Point, the ferry landing at the end of the peninsula

By about 1700 a ferry ran from this point across the Kill van Kull to Staten Island, which put the tip of Bergen Neck on the road between New York and Philadelphia. The landing later drew summer visitors and hotels before the refineries arrived. Bergen Point, Constable Hook, Centerville and Salterville were joined into one city in 1869 and called Bayonne.
