Baron von Richthofen's milk cure suburb at Montclair
1885
Denver, Colorado
Walter von Richthofen, a German nobleman and an uncle of the flying ace, founded Montclair on the plains east of Denver in 1885 and advertised it as the beautiful suburban town. Around 1888 he added the Molkery, a dairy barn where tuberculosis patients drank milk straight from the Jersey cows stabled below them and breathed the air rising off the stalls, a German spa treatment transplanted to Colorado. The cure business ended in 1893, and Denver acquired the building in 1908 and remodeled it into the city's first community center.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
