Aurora puts a casino on a riverboat in the Fox River

Illinois legalised riverboat gambling in 1990 on the argument that a casino floating on water was a different thing from one built on land, and Aurora opened its boats on the Fox River in June 1993. The rule shaped the architecture: a dock, a gangway and a vessel that in practice went nowhere. The state eventually dropped the fiction, and in 2026 the operation closed the boat and moved into a permanent building on Farnsworth Avenue.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
