The Showboat Mardi Gras, a riverboat casino moored in a steel harbour
1997
East Chicago, Indiana
East Chicago's answer to the shrinking mills was a $200 million Mardi Gras themed riverboat, which opened at Indiana Harbor on 18 April 1997 within sight of the steel works. Harrah's bought the Showboat company the following year, and the boat has been renamed three times since, ending up as the Ameristar. The gaming floor is still on the vessel while the high limit room sits on dry land beside it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
