In 1881 Aurora put an all electric street lighting system into service, among the first American cities to light its entire grid that way, and in 1908 it adopted the nickname City of Lights. The place had begun as two rival villages facing each other across the Fox River. They merged in 1857 and then could not agree which bank should hold the public buildings, so most of them went up on the island in the middle instead.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
