The street carries the name of William Francis Atkinson, who was captured during the Civil War, escaped Confederate custody, stayed in the army until 1886 and afterwards studied law and was admitted to the bar. The historic district running west from Woodward held 225 houses as of 2010, built for professionals in the boom decades when the car plants were hiring. It is the southern edge of the run of grand streets that includes Boston-Edison.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
