Ash Hill, bought by the man who marched camels across the Southwest
1875
Hyattsville, Maryland
Robert Clark, an Englishman who wanted quiet outside Washington, built this two storey brick house around 1840. Edward Fitzgerald Beale bought it in 1875, by then known for running the Army's experiment in camel transport while surveying a wagon road across the Southwest in 1857. Ulysses Grant was a close friend and a regular visitor here, and stabled at the house the two Arabian horses, Leopard and Linden, sent to him from the Ottoman sultan. The place is also called Hitching Post Hill.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
