Arecibo listens, and then falls

A thousand-foot dish set into a sinkhole, the largest radio telescope on earth for fifty-three years. It found the first binary pulsar, mapped Venus, and in 1974 sent the Arecibo message toward a star cluster 25,000 light years off. Cables began snapping in 2020 and the platform came down through the dish that December.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
