ANCSA settles the land

The largest Indigenous land settlement in American history: 44 million acres and just under a billion dollars, not to tribes but to twelve regional corporations with Alaska Natives as shareholders. It was the price of the pipeline, and it made Native Alaskans owners of businesses rather than holders of reservations.
