Amédé Ardoin makes the first Creole recordings
1929
Basile, Louisiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A Black Creole accordionist who played house dances with the white fiddler Dennis McGee made the first recordings of the music that became both Cajun and zydeco. He was beaten after a white woman handed him a handkerchief to wipe his face at a dance, never recovered, and died in the state asylum. Almost every Louisiana French accordion player since has played his tunes.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
