Acorn Park and the mica flecked spring that named Silver Spring
1840
Silver Spring, Maryland

Francis Preston Blair found a spring flecked with mica here in 1840 and named his estate Silver Spring after it. An acorn shaped gazebo was built over the spot in the 1850s and still stands. The whole park is about a tenth of an acre, wedged between East West Highway and Newell Street.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
