The first national park east of the Mississippi, and the only one assembled almost entirely from private gifts, summer residents who bought the land to keep portable sawmills off it. Rockefeller built 45 miles of carriage roads through it with hand-cut stone bridges and no cars.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
