At 6:11 in the evening on 9 September 2010 a 30 inch Pacific Gas and Electric transmission line ruptured beneath the Crestmoor neighbourhood and lit a fire column that residents first took for a plane crash. Eight people were killed and dozens hurt, 38 homes burned to the ground and more than a hundred were damaged. Crews took the better part of an hour to work out what had happened and longer still to shut the gas off. Investigators found a defective seam weld from 1956 and record keeping that did not match what was in the ground.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
