A nature centre is built to stop a freeway, and it works
1966

In 1963 the county engineer pushed to run the Clark and Lee freeways through Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights, which would have taken the Shaker Lakes and the parkland around them. Residents answered by founding a nature centre in 1966 on the exact spot where the two roads would have crossed, then walking officials through the parkland and commissioning an Audubon study. The building opened in 1969 and Governor James Rhodes killed the freeway plans in February 1970.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
