The Twin City Motor Speedway, a concrete oval opened in 1915, went broke quickly. In December 1919 the state adjutant general urged Minneapolis and St. Paul civic groups to buy the site for an airfield, and the 160 acres inside the racing oval were flying aircraft by 1920 under the name Speedway Field. It grew into Minneapolis-Saint Paul International, now among the dozen busiest airports in the country.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
