Where the Boeing whistleblower died
Holiday Inn, 301 Savannah Highway, Charleston, South Carolina
![]()
John Barnett spent three decades as a Boeing quality manager and, after retiring, said publicly that the South Carolina plant had cut corners, claims Boeing disputed. He was midway through a deposition in his whistleblower-retaliation case when he was found dead in his truck in this hotel parking lot. Police and the coroner ruled it a suicide, with a note. The disbelief that followed became a national story of its own, and his family's lawsuit against Boeing argues the years of retaliation are what broke him.
