Gordon Park sits on the Cleveland lakefront east of downtown, and the Lake Erie Walleye Trail brought its championship weigh in here on 30 September 2022. Five walleye handed over by Chase Cominsky and Jake Runyan came in heavier than the fish looked, so the tournament director cut one open on the pavement in front of everybody. Ten lead weights came out, about seven pounds of them, along with walleye fillets pushed in to pack the cavity. The pair were disqualified on the spot and the crowd around the scales did the rest. Both later pleaded guilty, served short jail terms, were fined, lost their fishing licences for three years and forfeited the boat to the state. What made the clip travel was that all of it happens in the open air on a car park apron with a crowd standing over it.
