DeShawn Raw was in his early twenties and living in Rancho Cucamonga when he began filming rap battle parodies with friends out here, a ring of people under the trees, a phone and no equipment at all. The character he played, Supa Hot Fire, took the format apart from the inside: he turned up to battles insisting he was not a rapper and won them anyway, on delivery and on the reaction of the circle rather than on anything he actually said.
