Cycadelic Records, the swap meet stall that sold gangsta rap first
1985
Compton, California
Wan Joon Kim arrived in Los Angeles from Korea in 1976 and started selling at swap meets to get by. When Korean vendors opened the Compton Fashion Center in 1985, he took a stall and began stocking the tapes local rappers could not get into a record shop. Rappers named the swap meet in their records for years and called Kim the godfather of gangsta rap. The building closed in 2015.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
