A small, strange, much-loved film about a German tourist and a run-down motel-diner in the Mojave, shot at a real cafe on old Route 66. The cafe renamed itself after the film and became a shrine to it, drawing European tourists to a dusty stretch of desert to eat under the photographs, decades after the highway that made it stopped carrying anyone.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
