St. Jerome Catholic Church has hosted the country's best-known political stump-speaking picnic every first Saturday of August since the 1880s. Statewide candidates trade barbs from a flatbed stage while parishioners work mutton and barbecue dinner stands that fund the parish school. It draws thousands of visitors to a Graves County community of a few hundred people. The 2027 date above is approximate, based on the picnic's unbroken first-Saturday-of-August pattern.
