Downtown Staunton turns into a Harry Potter inspired wizarding village for a weekend each fall, with local shops recast as wandmakers, potion sellers, and creature keepers. Started in 2016, Queen City Mischief & Magic has grown into one of the largest fantasy themed street festivals on the East Coast. It is free to attend and run by the city's downtown development association.

The world's only recreation of Shakespeare's indoor theatre sits on a side street in Staunton, built to the surviving dimensions in oak, with candlelight chandeliers and no stage lighting at all.
