Since 1887 the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club has pulled Phil from his stump at Gobbler's Knob before dawn on February 2 to predict six more weeks of winter or an early spring. Thousands gather in the pre-dawn cold and the reading is carried by national broadcasters every year.
