Pacifica's namesake street festival closes Palmetto Avenue for two days of live music, a parade, and craft vendors along the coastal downtown. The decades-old event is named for the fog that regularly rolls off the nearby beach.

Gaspar de Portola marched north up the coast in 1769 hunting for Monterey Bay, missed it, and kept going.
At 6:11 in the evening on 9 September 2010 a 30 inch Pacific Gas and Electric transmission line ruptured beneath the Crestmoor neighbourhood and lit a fire column that residents first took for a plane crash.
San Francisco voters had already barred any new cemetery inside the city, so when Congress authorised a national cemetery for the region in 1937 the site went south past the county line to San Bruno.
The long straight trough holding this reservoir was carved by the fault itself, and when the geologist Andrew Lawson mapped the break in 1895 he named it after this valley.
