Wright's poured-concrete church, completed 1908, is counted among the first modern buildings.
In May 1968, a month after the federal Fair Housing Act, Oak Park's village board passed an ordinance of its own banning discrimination in sales, rentals, advertising and lending, and outlawing panic peddling by estate agents.
Oak Park is known for its Frank Lloyd Wright cluster, and this district is nearly everything else: 539 acres and 1,558 contributing buildings, listed on the National Register in 1983.
