A masonry seacoast fort that stayed in Union hands through the whole Civil War, then got a stranger chapter: Geronimo and sixteen Apache men were imprisoned here in 1886, and Pensacola promoted the fort as an attraction while they were in it, with excursion boats running tourists out to look.
