Officer David Lee was checking buildings on the west side of Pensacola at half past one in the morning on 15 February 1978 when he found an orange Volkswagen behind Oscar's Restaurant that belonged to none of the staff. The car ran, the tag came back stolen from a man in Tallahassee, and it stopped near this corner. The driver kicked Lee's legs from under him, fought, broke free and ran, and Lee caught him and cuffed him.
