The Los Angeles Zoo strings its grounds with animal shaped lanterns and holiday lights each winter, running from mid November through early January. The seasonal display includes a laser show and themed nights, including a sensory inclusive evening and an LA Pride night. Tickets are separate from standard zoo admission.

The city opened this 133 acre zoo in Griffith Park in 1966 and closed the old zoo about two miles away, whose concrete grottoes were left standing and are still walked through today.
Gene Autry, the singing cowboy who had made his money playing the West on film, founded this museum in Griffith Park in 1988 to collect the real thing.
