The Autry Museum of the American West
1988
Los Angeles, California
Gene Autry, the singing cowboy who had made his money playing the West on film, founded this museum in Griffith Park in 1988 to collect the real thing. It holds around 150,000 visitors a year and covers the West through art, film, firearms and Native history rather than through the western alone. A 2013 rebuild reworked its art and firearms galleries.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
