Zippo, the lighter that works
1932
Bradford, Pennsylvania
Jonathan Mauer · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons
George Blaisdell started making windproof lighters in a Bradford loft in 1932 and attached a guarantee nobody sane would offer: it works or we fix it free, forever. The repair clinic still honors lighters from the 1930s, no receipt, no questions. The museum out front flies a flagpole shaped like a Zippo, and the click of the lid is a registered trademark, one of the few sounds that is.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
