Jacob Schmidt's operation on West Seventh grew out of a cave brewery and by the 1930s was among the largest in the country, working out of a red brick brew house built to look like a castle. Brewing ended in 2002 and the complex sat empty for eleven years. A neighbourhood and developer plan turned the brew house and bottling works into 260 apartments for artists in 2013, keeping the sign and the towers.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
