Where Lynyrd Skynyrd got its name

Leonard Skinner, the gym teacher and basketball coach here, kept sending students to the office over the school's ban on long hair. A group of them in a band then called The One Percent renamed themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd as a jab at him and kept the spelling. Skinner took it well enough to introduce the band on stage in Jacksonville years later, and his obituaries led with the coaching job that made his name famous.
