Weehawken Cove, the notch in the shoreline that named the town

Weehawken's recorded history starts here in 1609, when Henry Hudson's Half Moon anchored in the cove on its way down the river. The name is Lenape and reads roughly as at the end of, meaning either the Palisades themselves or the stream that ran off them into the water at this point. The Lincoln Tunnel later took much the same line inland. The cove is now the boundary between Weehawken and Hoboken, walled by the old Lipton tea plant on its southern side.
